College Corner: Politza to Hit the Hardwood at Grove City College
Tyrone senior multi-sport standout Anthony Politza will take to the hardwood next season for the Grove City College Wolverines.
Politza was a true three sport standout at Tyrone. The multi-talented Politza holds the career record for the most Tyrone Eagle Eye Athlete of the Week Awards.
He was named a Mountain League and Altoona Mirror All-Star in basketball, and was also a multi year Mountain League All Star goaltender for Tyrone Soccer as well a starting outfielder and major offensive contributor for the Golden Eagle Baseball squad.
But Poltiza will hang up both his soccer and baseball cleats this fall to focus on basketball in college.
“Basketball represents more than just a sport, it embodies a culture of toughness, teamwork, and dedication that is unrivaled by any other sport. Basketball truly translates well into life off the court,” said Politza.
“I will truly miss playing soccer and baseball. It’s weird to think that I won’t play another competitive baseball or soccer game. I loved spending time with my teammates at practice more than anything and the memories I made will stay with me forever.”
Politza was a force as a power forward for the Golden Eagles over the past four seasons. He played significantly as a freshman and was a leader throughout his time as a Golden Eagle.
Politza led the team in many statistical categories this season, including rebounds and points. He finished his high school carer with an impressive 954 career points.
The Division III Grove City Wolverines are coming off a successful 18-8 season and Politza hopes to support the front court of Grove City in any way he can.
He choose Grove City over Geneva, Penn State Behrend, and Case Western Reserve University.
