Coleman Leads Tyrone into District Championship Meet
Tyrone junior Madison Coleman enters the District 6 Championship meet at Penn State University this Friday and Saturday with a shot at a district title and a trip to states.
Coleman, who has been winning all season long for the Golden Eagles, is seeded first in 50 free (25.82) and is second in 100 free (57.15).
She and several of her teammates who qualified for the district championships have high hopes of making the podium this year.
“I’m really excited about our team going to districts. Everyone has been practicing hard and Coach Tom and Coach Decker have been preparing and pushing us to do well this weekend. I hope we will all have fun and compete hard,” said Coleman.
Tyrone Head Coach Tom Getz is hopeful for Coleman and the rest of his team.
“Both of [Coleman’s] races will be very tough and anything can happen in a 50 or a 100. She just needs to put together good swims and race the other girls in the pool.” said Getz, “In general, I am expecting a good showing at the district meet. We have been working hard to get ready for the meet so I expect to be able to drop some times. If we swim our races and race the kids in the pool, the times and places will take care of themselves.”
The girl’s medley relay team of Fiona McConnell, Madison Coleman, Sarah E. Hoover, and Mae Decker is seeded second (2:00.40), just behind Penns Valley. The relay is also ranked third in the 200 free relay (1:50.42).
