Tyrone Golden Eagles (11-10) traveled to Clearfield to face off against The Bison (15-5) on February 11th.
The Lady Eagles were hoping to end the season with a win. Unfortunately, the tight game ended with the Bison winning 59-54.
Tyrone played Clearfield in a 1-3-1 zone defense since the last time they played Tyrone had trouble with fouls and many of their key players had to sit.
The Lady Eagles scored right off of the tip with a lay-up by Lola Woomer. The Bison scored twice back to back after Tyrone turned the ball over when Clearfield threw a full-court press at them.
With lots of defensive stops from both teams, the low-scoring quarter ended with The Bison in the lead by one point, 14-13.
With a quick drive to the paint and a foul from Clearfield, junior Alayna Woomer scored the first points of the quarter from the foul line. With Clearfield in foul trouble, Tyrone attacked the paint to try to limit their key players’ playing time.
The strategy paid off with the Lady Eagles taking the lead 32-28 at halftime.
Clearfield came out in the second half with a drive and was able to put the first points up on the board.
Tyrone’s Rylan Crowell hit the first three for The Eagles to tie the game 35-35. The third quarter was the highest-scoring quarter for both teams and ended with Clearfield in the lead by two points, 44-42.
Tyrone scored the first points of the fourth quarter but Clearfield went on a run and completed multiple traditional three-point plays. This put them ahead by 6 points, 50-44.
Clearfield realized the advantage they had and they started to run the clock. Tyrone had to foul early to regain possession of the ball.
Alayna Woomer was the leading scorer of the fourth quarter for Tyrone, scoring 6 points.
The final seconds played down to hitting foul shots and Clearfield’s success and Tyrone’s failure on the foul line led to the Clearfield victory.
