More than 150 participants attended the 13th Annual Tyrone Area FFA Chapter Fun Clay Shoot at Warriors Mark Wingshooting Lodge on October 12, 2025. Seventeen-chapter members staffed registration, the canteen, and trap stations throughout the day after months of student-led planning that began in July with a fundraising target of $4,000.
“Like our other events, this one was conceived, planned, and led entirely by students. I am extremely proud of how they addressed challenges, applied critical problem-solving skills, and engaged meaningfully with community members. They surpassed their goal and should take great pride in this achievement,” said Tiffany Hoy, FFA advisor.
Senior Sarah Weakland worked as a trapper, escorting groups around the course, recording scores, and operating the remote that released clays for shooters.
“It was an amazing experience, and I loved meeting and interacting with different people. It is definitely one of my favorite FFA activities to participate in,” Weakland said.
Thanks to the members’ efforts, the chapter secured 43 sponsors and raised more than $5,000 in a single day.
“These proceeds will help send FFA members to state conferences and competitions this year and fund community‑service projects in our local area. Our chapter raises all the money for our events and provides support for members who face financial challenges so everyone can attend county and state activities. We are excited to make a big impact—thank everyone for helping to make a positive difference in the lives of our members and community,” co-chair of the Clay Shoot and senior FFA member Paige Hoy said.
When the three flights concluded, Lewis Class scoring determined the class winners:
Class A — Joe Vescovi; Class B — Luke Brenneman; Class C — Glenn Myers; Class D — Kyle Patton; and Class E — Matt Dixon.
Tyrone Area High School sophomore Ryder Black earned the highest-scoring junior award.
The top-scoring team of the event consisted of James Briggs, Jesse Stringer, Randy Rutter, and Brady Brown.
Next year’s Clay Shoot is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, 2026. For updates and additional information, check the Tyrone Area FFA Facebook page.
