Cheering All the Way Home! Cheerleaders place at local competition
Tyrone Varisty Cheerleaders finish 4th in their competition
The Tyrone Varsity Cheerleaders headed to Altoona for the Respiratory Awareness cheerleading competition on November 5, 2013.
This year the money that’s raised will be used for spreading awareness and knowledge of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). The competition started at 7 o’ clock with an epic dance-off between Charlene’s School of Dance and Centre Dance.
“I am very excited for my first cheerleading competition,’’ said freshman cheerleader Cassie Friday, ‘’we have been practicing for a while and we will show that off tonight.’’
Hailey Durbin, also a freshman, said ‘’ I think we will do great tonight, we all know our strengths and we will definitely surprise a crowd.’’
After the dancing competitions finished, the cheerleading section followed. Five schools competed in the varsity division: Tyrone, Bishop Guilfoyle, Northern Bedford, and Portage, and the host school, Altoona.
The stakes were high – and the girls began.
Hard work apparently paid off, because the girls brought home a 4th place trophy. 1st place was awarded to Bishop Guilfoyle, 2nd place was given to the Portage Mustangs, 3rd place going to Altoona, and 5th place goes to Northern Bedford.
“I am very happy with all the girls,” said Walk, “they hit their stunts, they were very loud, had good facials, and lots of energy,” said Head Coach Kera Walk.
“The Tyrone Varsity Cheerleaders would like to give a shout out to all the schools who participated in the completion: you all did a great job, and provided them with an amazing competition,” added Walk.
