Tyrone’s tenth grade biology teacher Mrs. Lumadue is piloting a new idea at Tyrone Area High School. The “Bring Your Own Device” policy allows students in her 10th grade biology classes to use their own laptops, tablets and other devices in class for academic purposes. This idea has grown with the students.
She is using BYOD for reviewing the Biology Keystone Exams. Lumadue said “I believe it will be helpful or I wouldn’t be using it!” She will use the devices at the end of periods to review and students should practice while they aren’t at school.
Mrs. Lumadue had her idea approved by Mr. Yoder and Mr. Drager who set up the BYOD network so the students could get on to the schools Wi-Fi with their devices. The students will be using the Quizlet app as a review for the Biology Keystones. The students may use websites later.
Tristan Lingafelt said “The new idea Mrs. Lumadue has come up with is pretty cool because we don’t have to have do review worksheets when we can use our devices.”
Lumadue is not the only teacher involved. Ninth grade English teacher Ms. Dobrowolsky has the same idea, but for English.
Dobrowolsky has already started the idea and has been successful. Dobrowolsky says, “Any and all, although thinglink has been a favorite in Honors English 9.” In response to what BYOD websites they use to help in English.
