Tyrone senior Brien Jones has achieved his goal of playing collegiate baseball with his family and coaches by his side.
Jones will attend Mount Aloysius College in the fall, where he will major in criminology and play baseball for the Mounties.
The Mount is a Division III program that competes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC).
The Head coach for the Mounties is Kevin Kime. The Mounties had a stellar season this year. They had a record of 27-14 and made the playoffs.
“The Mount is a competitive school that takes baseball seriously and will allow me to grow and become a better player. I love the coaching staff because they treat me like family,” Jones said.
Jones has had a stellar senior season this year. He broke into the starting lineup and currently leads the team in batting average, with an impressive .480 average.
“Brienn’s strength is in his bat. He worked extremely hard this off-season to become one of our better bats,” said Tyrone Head Coach Kevin Soellner.
Jones hit his first career high school home run against Philipsburg, one of the top teams in the area.
Jones plays outfield, but he has mainly been serving as the designated hitter for Tyrone, delivering hits in big moments.
“Brienn has been a great teammate who has worked extremely hard at his craft. Adversity has hit him, and every time he’s come back stronger. He will do great things at the next level,” senior Ashton Walk said,
Outside of baseball, Brienn’s interests include hunting, playing the guitar, weightlifting, and fishing.
Brienn’s favorite high school baseball memory is the multiple games played on PNG Field in the Curve Classic.
Soellner said the Mount is getting a great teammate and a player who will contribute right away.
“Brienn is very good at pushing his teammates. He had to compete very hard for playing time, which showed his teammates the effort it took and made them work harder as well,” Soellner said.
