Boys Tennis Team Opens Season 1-1

Noah Irvin

This week the Golden Eagles varsity boys tennis team kicked off their 2019 season with a loss and a close win.

The first match against regional power Altoona did not end well for the Golden Eagles, but did give the team some good early season experience against one of the best teams in the region.

Altoona swept Tyrone at home, 6-0. Fortunately this was not a league match and does not affect their chances of winning the Mountain League.

The second match of the year was away at Clearfield, which gave Tyrone their first win.

Caden Brooks was a double winner for the Eagles with both a singles and doubles win.

Tyrone won the match 4-3 with wins from Brooks, Dean Grassi, and Caleb Orr. The doubles team of Brooks and Noah Irvin also defeated Clearfield’s Avery Rowles and Devon DeSantis to seal the win for the Eagles.

Tyrone plays home this Thursday against Winber.
