The Golden Eagle boys tennis team suffered a close 3-2 loss to Everett in their first match of the season on Tuesday, March 11.
Tyrone senior Ethan Dasher was the only winner for the Golden Eagles, edging out Everett’s Elijah Morse 2-1 (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) in the second singles match.
Tyrone’s number one singles player Wyatt Walls lost his match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, and Caden Harris was also defeated in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, in the number three singles match.
Budding superstars Quinn Cowher and Rhys Rawlings didn’t have to play to get the win, as Everett forfeited their second doubles. This was Cowher’s first appearance in the starting rotation and also up his first career win.
Following the conclusion of the singles games, along with factoring in the second-doubles forfeit, the match was tied at 2-2.
The match came down to the first doubles game between Tyrone seniors Logan Harpster and Tyler Weston and Everett’s Xavier Fultz and Carson Vollbrecht.
The match ended in a close defeat as Weston and Harpster lost the first set 6-3, and were defeated in the second set 11-9 in a tie breaker after the score was knotted at 6-6.
“The match was close up until the end, and we fought hard. We play them again this year, and I am looking forward to facing them again,” senior Logan Harpster said.
Tyrone will be back in action on Friday on the road at Westmont Hilltop.
