The Tyrone boys won the team title at the 2025 SAC Bedford Invitational, and sophomore Caleb Whitby broke the meet long jump record, jumping 21 feet, 8 inches.

The girls also had a successful meet, placing fourth overall in team scoring.

The invitational was held on Saturday, April 12, and included 13 boys teams and 14 girls teams from across the area.

BOYS

It was Tyrone’s first-ever championship in the meet, which was previously called the Giant Eagle Invitational.

Head Coach Brad Kanush was excited for his team.

“I’m really proud of the way the boys competed. They knew they had a shot to win it, and they went out there and had great performances. I couldn’t be happier with the way the team is coming together,” Kanuch said.

Sophomore Drew Irons had another outstanding performance as he placed third in both the 400 meter and the 200-meter, and was a part of the 1600-meter relay team that placed second with teammates Caleb Whitby, senior Dante Novak, and sophomore Tytus Novak.

Senior Aiden Detwiler placed second in the 800-meter with a time of 2:10.28 and was a part of the 3200-meter relay that placed second with teammates Dante Novak, senior Thomas Sutt, and junior Alex Brumbaugh.

Tom Sutt placed fourth in the 3200-meter and fifth in the 1600-meter.

Sophomore Mason Emigh placed fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 40-7 and fifth in the long jump with a jump of 20-1.

Senior Dante Novak placed 5th in the 400-meter and placed sixth in the long jump with a jump of 20-0.25.

The Tyrone boys hurdle crew continues to shine as sophomore Tyler Connelly placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.58 and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Sophomore Kyler Suhoney placed 4th in the 110-meter hurdles and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Sophomore Carter Gwinn placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 125-3.

Alex Brumbaugh placed fifth in the 800-meter.

Senior Cian Hockenberry was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-6.

Senior Seth Hoover placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.75.

GIRLS

Junior Claire Lehman was the only first-place individual winner for the girls. She won the 300-meter hurdles, running a time of 49.68.

Lehman was also a part of the 400-meter relay that took second with sophomore Sarah Chichester, junior Nicole Ramsey, and senior Alayna Greene.

Junior Nicole Ramsey placed second in the long jump, jumping  15-7. She also placed second in the triple jump, jumping  33-11.

“With the weather conditions not being ideal, I think we performed well and did the best we could’ve done,” said junior Nicole Ramsey.

The 1600-meter relay placed second, running a time of 4:24.03. This relay included sophomore Sarah Chichester, junior Alyssa Houck, sophomore Taylor Wrye, and junior Claire Lehman.

Sarah Chichester placed fourth in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 13.53. She also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 27.5.

Sophomore Taylor Wrye placed third in the 400-meter dash, running a time of 1:04.7, and she also placed third in the 800-meter with a 2:34.58.

In the high jump, freshman Lola Woomer placed fifth, jumping a height of 4-6, while senior Alayna Greene placed sixth, jumping a height of 4-6.

Junior Addison Warren placed fourth in pole vault, jumping  7-6.
