Boys soccer has a rough weekend in Dubois

The team warming up

On Saturday morning the Tyrone boys soccer team traveled to Dubois for a non-conference match. Unfortunately, Tyrone dropped the match 4-2.

Tyrone had trouble adjusting to a slick turf field and Dubois was quick to strike. They required only two and a half minutes to score their first goal.

After the initial success Dubois wasn’t able to produce many offensive possessions, while Tyrone’s defense worked hard while the offense adjusted itself.

Twenty minutes into the half Noah D’Angelo broke away from several defenders for a quality shot on goal.

“I have no clue how that goalie saved [that shot],” voiced D’Angelo, “Luckily it bounced right to Schmoke.”

Alex Schmoke recorded his first goal of the season on the rebound off D’Angelo’s shot.

Minutes later a flawless through ball by Brennan McKendree caused a personal foul by Dubois on freshman forward, Andrew Pearson.

Pearson was fouled inside the penalty box and D’Angelo easily converted. Tyrone went into halftime confident and determined to beat Dubois, a AAAA school.

After halftime, Tyrone had issues keeping possession and stopping through balls.

Dubois scored two goals in the second half off through balls and wide open shots. The other goal came from a unmarked Dubois player winding up inside the 18 yard box.

Tyrone certainly could have played better in the second half, but the Dubois squad had excellently placed shots on goal all morning.

Tyrone (2-4) looks to get back on track Tuesday at 4:00 against a tough Bellefonte team who’s on top of the Mountain League.
