Boys Soccer Falls to The Red Raiders
Tyrone took on the undefeated Bellefonte Raiders and fell to them 8-3. Bellefonte currently holds the number one spot in the mountain league.
Both teams were working the ball in the beginning and having multiple chances at goal.
Tyrone’s leading scorer, senior Alex Taylor, answered first with a driven ball from 25 yards out into the far post and in the side netting of the goal off a throw in from senior Andrew Tournatore in the 10th minute.
Shortly after Bellefonte responded with a goal with a miscommunication by Tyrone’s defense and goalie tying the game up 1-1.
Bellefonte then answered on a breakaway 5 minutes later to put them in the lead 2-1.
This gave Bellefonte a ton of momentum and started to expose Tyrone’s defense constantly sliding players through.
Bellefonte’s main strategy was to score on breakaways. After Tyrone loses the ball Bellefonte defenders kick the ball as far as they can up the field for Bellefonte attackers to run onto.
“We are building good habits,” said head coach Alex Bartlett.
Bellefonte scored on a couple more breakaways and crosses and the score at the end of the half was 5-1.
Tyrone’s heads were down and Bellefonte starters continued to run up the score in the second half. Putting two goals away early.
With Tyrone only having two subs they still continued to fight and not give up. Tyrone scored twice more on penalty kicks that were put away by seniors Andrew Tournatore and Kelton Raabe. Bellefonte ended the game by putting another one in.
Tyrone will get the opportunity for revenge at home later this season and is hoping for some better results.
