Boys Soccer defeats Central 3-1
The heavy rain on Thursday took its toll on Tyrone’s soccer field but despite poor field conditions, the Golden Eagles were able to defeat both the elements and the Central Dragons for their first win of the season.
The game started slow as both teams adjusted to mucky patches that dotted the field. Early in the first half Tyrone struck first when Andrew Pearson sent a perfect back heel ball to Noah D’Angelo for a wide open shot with which D’Angelo finished easily.
Central showed life after the first goal by making some deep runs into Tyrone territory but couldn’t convert.
Tyrone’s Asher Christine found an open lane on the left side of the field that he quickly turned and found an open D’Angelo positioned at the 18 yard line. D’Angelo fired through three defenders and hit net.
Tyrone seemed to loosen up on defense and Central was able to squeeze in a goal. A through ball by Central’s Caleb Stern went over the defense found an unmarked Joey Smith inside the 18 yard line. Smith took one touch and was able to slip the ball past Tyrone keeper, Anthony Politza.
It seemed like Central took an adrenaline shot after that goal. The entire team was fired up and kept playing well until the half.
After the half, Tyrone shut down the little Central production that was present. Central was limited to only a few possessions that crossed into the Tyrone half. Regardless, it took Tyrone quite a while to find another goal. With 20 minutes left in the half, Tyrone midfielder Nic Mallory assisted on D’Angelo’s third goal of the evening.
After D’Angelo’s hat trick Tyrone went into a conservative mode and Central could never get a good possession.
Tyrone (1-1) adds their first win while Central (0-3) is still seeking their first.
