Golden Eagles added another strong performance Monday night against a scrappy Clearfield squad on Senior Night.
Before the game, Tyrone honored and celebrated Each of the nine seniors who have dedicated their time to building the future of Tyrone, and the community as a whole.
The Golden Eagles were leading by just one point at the end of the first, but found their intensity and never looked back to an 81-57 victory against a quality District 9 championship-caliber team.
Tyrone ended with four players well in double-figures; Led by seniors Sam Crilly with 20 points, Forwards Kendall Lehner and Andrew Escala who ended with 15 and 11 points respectively, and a rising Junior Ashton Emigh who finished with a perfect 7/7 field goal percentage and 15 points.
Senior point guard Ashton Walk led the facilitating with 9 assists on just one turnover.
“The senior leadership has improved since the beginning of the season, and has motivated us to improve daily and help us reach our team goal of winning a district championship,” said Carter Gwinn
The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start on offense in the First quarter turned the corner and picked up the offensive efficiency in the second quarter. Tyrone held a 14-point advantage nearing the end of the first half, but the Bison answered back in the final minutes of the second quarter, shifting the lead to a 9-point advantage for the Golden Eagles.
Tyrone kept their foot on the gas and brought the defensive energy that they were lacking in the first half. The lead was pushed to a 13-point lead, and the wheels came off for the Bison early in the fourth giving Tyrone a 25-point lead with 2:00 minutes left.
Seniors Ethan Dasher and Dante Novak unleashed a pair of threes that got the gym rocking for Logan Harpster who iced the game with two free throws. Tyrone ended the game with their 17th win, but props went to the nine seniors who all scored during the game.
The continued moral that has entered into February has the Golden Eagles destined for district playoffs, and have their eyes on their district championship in 25 years.
The Golden Eagles will end the season with a matchup against a tough State College opponent who recently knocked off the reigning 6A and nationally ranked team in Central York.
