Boys Basketball Clips Chestnut Ridge at Hollidaysburg Tournament
Tyrone came out on top vs Chestnut Ridge in a close game, 72-68 on Saturday at the weekend’s second Roundball Classic Tournament in Hollidaysburg,
Led by senior Landen DeHaas’s 20 points, Tyrone fought off a determined CR team that would fall behind but rebounded several times to give Tyrone a close match.
Tyrone senior Cortlynd Rhoades chipped in 17 and senior David Lang was also in double digits for the Golden Eagles with 14 points.
Tyrone started out hot with an 11-0 run, but Chestnut Ridge fought back and slowly worked their way back into the game. Ridge took over the lead 20-18 at the end of the first quarter.
But Tyrone owned the second quarter by a 12 point advantage, making the score 37-27 Tyrone at the half.
Going into crunch time Tyrone was up 10, but Chestnut Ridge did not want to go out without a fight, hitting threes and tying up the game in the final minutes.
But Rhoades and DeHass both made their foul shots to seal the game for Tyrone.
Chestnut Ridge’s Matt Whysong scored 26 points to lead all scorers. The senior from Chestnut Ridge also went over the 1,000-point mark for his career in the game.
