Boys basketball beats Mount Union 64-41
aAnthony Politza led all scorers with 21 points and Zach Soellner added 10 to lead Tyrone over Mount Union in a non-conference game on Monday in Mount Union.
Tyrone (4-2) broke open a close game by outscoring Mount Union 22-8 in the third quarter.
The first half was back and forth as Tyrone struggled to stay with Mount Union’s shooters.
However, Tyrone had its way on offense picking apart the Trojans whereever they wanted to.
Once Tyrone improved their defense in the second half, the Eagles began to fly away with the game.
“We finally picked up our press in the third quarter which led to many turnovers,” said senior Anthony Politza.
Tyrone was 29/38 from the charity stripe which was a big part of their third quarter barrage.
Mount Union turned the ball over countless times and fouled almost every possession. Tyrone converted easy buckets and stepped up to the foul line to pull away with the game.
The lead was inflated to 20+ points heading into the fourth quarter and the starters for Tyrone played restricted minutes.
Tyrone improves to 4-2 and will look to stay hot going into the holiday with a home game against Central on Wednesday.
