Book Review: Speak
Author: Laurie Halse Anderson
Have you ever read a book so good you had to share it with the world?
The book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, not only is filled with a ton of conflict, but also a great moral message.
It is about a young girl in 9th grade who went to a party with all her friends. That night she had to call the cops, and it got everyone in trouble. The next day everyone in school hated her for what she had done. They called her names, pushed her down, but even though this all happened, she still had a smile upon her face. No one knew why she called the cops, until she told an old friend. That night at the party she had been raped by a boy in her grade. As devistating as it sounds she never said a word. It was to painful for her. Everyone in school felt so horrible for what they did to her. Then on the last day of school she was fixing up a janitors closet when the “Beast” the boy who raped her before, tried to strike again. She fought him off and screamed, until the girls lacrosse team got a teacher to help her. The next school year Melanie was well respected by her peers, and everything went back to normal.
Even though the conflict has a big part to do with this story, but as well as the message. The message in this story to me means, and stands for, even though something might happen, or someone does something that you have no clue why, doesnt mean you have to assume anything. Ask someone first. It could be something really bad, and you being mean to them could make it worse.
This book helped me out in alot of ways. I know now when i hit rock bottom to never give up. To remain the strong person i am. To go on with my day with a smile upon my face. This book taught me alot, and i hope it can do the same for you!
This book could help alot of people out in many ways. It shows how someone could be so strong at their weakest points. It shows that even when you do something wrong, just an explaination can fix everything.
In my opnion this book is helpful, and heart felt. If you ever get the chance to read it, you wont be disappointed!
