Review: This book has received 5 out of 5 stars.
When Clary Fray went to the Pandemonium Club in New York, she never expected to witness a murder. Much less witness a murder with no evidence. The blue haired boy – if he was a boy – who had been killed vanished without a trace, not a hair or even a smear of blood left to show for it.
The three teenagers who had killed him were marked with strange tattoos, brandished strange weapons, and, unbeknownst to Clary, were invisible. Of course, it’s kind of hard to call the police with the body gone and the killers invisible.
Little did she know that this was her first meeting with the Shadowhunters, a group of people committed to ridding the world of demons.
This was also her first meeting with Jace, a boy who, while looking like an angel, was a bit of a jerk. Within the space of a day, Clary is pulled into his world after her mother mysteriously disappears, and she is attacked by a demon.
But no one understands why demons would be interested in mundanes like Clary and her mother.
Reading City of Bones was like being transported into a world where the boogey man might very well be real. Despite the fantasy, though, Cassandra Clare succeeded in describing New York and the setting enough to provide a full mental picture of where Clary and Jace went.
She didn’t just write about the setting, however. This story forged straight forward like a train with no intention of stopping. Rapidly changing and action-packed, Clary must defeat the forces holding her mother captive and confront a mysterious figure from Shadowhunters’ past.
It is being made into a movie that is coming out in August of this year, which many fans, myself included, are excited about. Remember, read the book before you see the movie.
Anyone interested in a thrilling tale of love, loss, and demons is sure to love this book.
