Best Haunted Houses in the Area

October is the time of year when the weather begins to cool down, the days begin to get shorter, and things start to get spooky. There are pumpkin patches, corn mazes and best of all, haunted houses. These top 5 haunted houses and trails are some of the best in the area.

Scary Harry’s Haunted Trails LLC is in Homer City, PA. Opening night is on October 7th at 7:00 to 11:59pm. No one under the age of 18 will be admitted into the trail unless they’re accompanied by a guardian, and tickets must be purchased. It got five out of five star ratings on many websites, and is considered to be extremely scary.

Field of Screams is Mountville, PA and has many attractions. There is the Haunted Hayride, Den of Darkness, Frightmare Asylum, Nocturnal Wasteland, Extreme Blackout, the 25 years Anniversary Package, the 5k Zombie Fun Run, and the Field of Screams Entertainment Area. There is a list of ticket prices for each attraction, and dates for them as well on the website.

Spook Haven is in Mill Hall, PA and its opening night is October 6-7th. It’s attractions include 6 Feet Under, which has been revamped for 2017, The Old School House, Friday the Thirteenth, the Light’s Out special event, and for a more family oriented night of Halloween fun, the Family Friendly “Trick or Treat” Block Party. Haunted Hillside is is Mt. Pleasant, PA, and opens October 6-7th.  There is a story for each year, and this year’s story is about  demonic scarecrows killing anyone who roams their cornfields. The event simulates that you are in a scary movie. It starts and ends with a hayride, but there is a mile long hike through the haunted grounds in between, so dress accordingly. Hundred Acres Manor Haunted House is located in Bethel Park, PA and has been open since the beginning of September. Its many attractions include Dead Lift, The Host, Torture Tank, Vodou, The Breach, and Hallows’ Eve. Travel Channel called this one of America’s scariest Halloween attractions. *Splurge Scare* The Eastern State Penitentiary is located in Philadelphia. There are always daily tours of the old prison, but during Halloween, the Terror Behind the Walls starts. The attractions include the Infirmary, Blood yard, Quarantine, Break Out, Lock Down, and Machine Shop. It’s been open since September 22nd, and continues on until November 11th. The New York Times said that this is “Perfect for Halloween.” All the information is on the website.
