Bellwood edges Tyrone in annual “pink” game
The 3rd annual Pink Game between Tyrone and Bellwood was a hard-fought loss for the Lady Eagles on Monday, January 6th. The final score was Bellwood 49, Tyrone 43.
“We actually played very tough, [and we] left everything on the floor,” said Tyrone head coach Luke Rhoades, ” We turned the ball over too much, but I liked where we were and how hard we played. [If we] clean up little things, we can definitely compete with teams that are good as Bellwood.”
The game was clean, yet very physical, between the two long-standing rivals. Each side battled relentlessly from the tip-off until the final buzzer.
Sophomore Finnley Christine lead all Tyrone scorers with 11 points and was followed close behind by freshman Kasey Engle with 10.
Fouls were abundant during the contest. Senior Jordyn Swogger fouled out with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter.
The Lady Eagles were fouled in return with the team sinking 82% of their foul shots. Tyrone finished with 19-23 from the foul line.
Tyrone led at a couple of points late in the third and began the fourth up 35-33, but could not hold onto the lead in the final minutes.
