Bedford Ends Tyrone’s Season with 24-17 Defeat

The Bedford Bisons stampeded the Golden Eagles in the 24-17 loss.

Despite a late comeback and valiant effort from Junior Parker Mitchell, Tyrone ended their season Friday night against the Bedford Bison.

The Bison stampeded over the Golden Eagle defense in the 24-17 loss. Rushing for 242 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The true force of the stampede came from seniors Davis Kline, Brayden Shaffer, and Dylan Arnold. Kline led Bedford with 104 rushing yards and a touchown while Shaffer and Arnold added 72 and touchdown each.

Tyrone did quite the opposite after Bedford’s defense forced only gave up 23 rushing yards. Tyrone’s hopes relied heavily on the arm of Denver Light. Although he threw for 246 yards, Light only completed 48% of his passes and threw four interceptions.

“They were able to make some plays, but the rushing yardage I think was big,” Bedford coach Kevin Steele said. “We kind of forced them into being one-dimensional.”

Parker Mitchell accounted for 235 of Tyrone’s 260 total yards on offense. That’s not a typo. Mitchell reeled in 14 receptions for 235 receiving yards. That’s the second best by any Tyrone receiver in one game. Tyrone alumni Charles Wilson-Adams owns the current record of 246 receiving yards against Richland in 2012. Mitchell owns two of the top three performances with 188 last year ranking third all time.

“This is the worst feeling,” Mitchell said. “I was trying to do whatever I could to help the team out. Those guys mean the world to me.”

Tyrone was down 17-7 at halftime, but managed to tie the game up 17-17 early in the fourth quarter. That’s when Bedford senior Davis Kline burst 50 yards down the sideline with down field blocking to score and made sure the Bison fans went home happy. Tyrone finished the season 5-6 after an injury plagued year led to a few upsets and close games. However  a lot of players also stepped up and gave head coach Jason Wilson hope for the future.

“I think the game was pretty even,” said head coach Jason Wilson. “I’m proud of the guys. They continued to battle back. We never gave up and played to the end.”
