Bearcats Numbers Take Down Eagles
Huntington beat the Tyrone 60-19 in first dual of the season.
On the first dual match of the season Tyrone lost to Huntington 60- 19. While the final score was not close, individually Tyrone wrestlers went 4-4 on the night. The Eagles gave up six forfeits which hurt them on the score board.
The match featured a high percentage of falls, as many first year wrestlers were up against experienced Huntington wrestlers. Tyrone’s experienced wrestlers returned the favor to Huntington with one pin and two technical falls.
“I think everyone is improving as a team and individually,” said senior Devon Brown.
The dual started off at 126 with junior Jamal Hicks taking on Jacob Wagner of Huntington. Hicks won a exciting match with a pin in the last seconds of second period.
At 132 pounds sophomore Brandon Ixtepan lost by fall to Issac Benson of Huntington in the second period.
Senior Brian Gunter lost by fall in second period to Huntington’s Tyler Scott at 145 pounds.
At 152 pounds Tyrone’s Sage Dixon Won by tech fall in the third period to Draven Zook of Huntington.
Junior Derrick Harris won a tight match 13-7 to Trent Sheaffer from Huntington at 160 pounds.
At 170 pounds Joey Bailey of Huntington pinned Tyrone sophomore Jack Lewis in the first period.
Senior Levi Raling lost by a fall to Huntington Alex Mykut at 195 pounds.
To end the match Tyrone Senior Devon Brown won by tech fall in 4:13 to Chandler Laver of Huntington at 120 pounds.
The Golden Eagles will next wrestle at the notorious Sheets Holiday Tournament this weekend were they hope to place many wrestlers in top eight spots.
