BEA Wins Battle of Eagles
Coming into Friday’s game, Tyrone knew that Bald Eagle was better than their 2-3 record.
Each of Bald Eagle’s three losses came to teams who had one or fewer losses at the time of their matchup. That being said, the Golden Eagles were still confident in their ability to win the game.
But Bald Eagle took down the Golden Eagles with big plays and a very stingy defense, handing Tyrone their first loss of the season, 31-7.
“Our offense needs to improve, so we don’t have to put so much weight on the defense this week,” said junior tight end and defensive end Andrew Weaver.
The Bald Eagle defensive front contained Tyrone all night, holding the Golden Eagles to 159 all-purpose yards on offense.
Bald Eagle’s defensive line caused quarterback Ashton Walk to roll out on almost every drop back, not allowing Walk to make plays down the field with his arm.
On the ground, the Tyrone offense had a mere 51 yards rushing, averaging less than 2 yards a carry.
Tyrone’s offensive struggles in both running and passing against the Bald Eagles put a lot of pressure on Tyrone’s defense as the game went on.
With the added pressure, Tyrone’s defense gave up 31 points, which was more points allowed in one game than their previous five games combined.
The defense also allowed 289 all-purpose yards, almost twice as many yards as the Tyrone offense gained.
The Golden Eagles were missing two key players in the game, forcing newer players to step up. Senior tight end and middle linebacker Josh Patterson was out during the game, as he sustained an ankle injury last week against the Huntingdon Bearcats. Junior running back and Cornerback Brady Ronan was also out with a back injury.
With the first loss as a team under their belts, the Golden Eagles will look to bounce back this week in a Mountain League match-up against the Clearfield Bison.
Each team heads into the matchup with a 5-1 record. The number one goal for the Golden Eagles this week is to get healthy and stay healthy for the future.
