Bauer Named to All-State Team, Cherry and Williams Make D6 All-Star Team
Tyrone senior outside hitter Makenna Bauer was named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA All-State team.
Bauer was one of three Tyrone Lady Eagle volleyball players that were also named to the District 6 2A all-star teams: Bauer made the first team and seniors Mattie Cherry and Courtney Williams made the second team.
Bauer was joined by players from Philipsburg-Osceola, Bald Eagle, Northern Cambria, and Penns Valley as District 6 representatives on the All-State team.
“It’s an honor to be a part of the all-star team mainly because of how good the other girls are that have also been named…I was lucky enough to be a part of the district all-star team last year as well so this was a big goal of mine for this season,” said Bauer.
Cherry and Williams were joined by players from Cambria Heights, Central Cambria, Philipsburg-Osceola, Northern Cambria, Penns Valley, Bald Eagle Area, and Forest Hills on the D6 team.
Cherry was surprised that she made all-stars despite playing libero for a good percent of the season.
“The Mountain League in the past few years has produced some of the best teams in the state so it’s always an honor to be named to one of the teams. I was awarded the first team last season, so obviously I wanted to make the team again, but I was surprised to make the team despite playing a new position for some of the year,” said Cherry.
Williams was also surprised and honored to be named to the all-star team.
“I feel honored to even be a part of this group of amazingly talented volleyball players, and I didn’t expect to be selected as an all-star because there are many other girls that deserve it way more than I do in the league, but I’m proud that I was chosen,” said Williams.
The volleyball team is very proud of the girls for everything they’ve done this season and in the past. They wanted to add that “if anyone deserves it, it’s them.”
