Bake Shop Bakes is owned and operated by locals and has been a staple of the Tyrone community for years, serving up delicious baked goods, sandwiches, and other treats.
“It all started [in 2012] when my wife had kids, and we knew they could not afford daycare, and they got apples and my wife made an apple pie, and it was the best pie I tasted, and that is where it started,” said founder and owner Andy Hoover.
Hoover and his wife, Brittney, took a chance and turned their love of baking into a business.
Today, the business is still a family affair, with everyone pitching in to help make it successful.
They are not just in Tyrone, either. After humble beginnings, they have expanded to offer baked goods at many locations across central Pennsylvania.
“We supply to stores all around the area,” said Hoover.
The bakery offers many options, including fan-favorite apple dumplings, peanut butter brownies, and sticky buns.
They also plan to debut their own raisin cookies across the area soon.
One of the most successful ways that Hoover has grown the business and helped local non-profit groups at the same time is through their popular fundraising program.
“Fundraising is a big part to help the nonprofits and kids, Pi Day celebration, and other businesses give a dollar to charity for every pie sold, and they help all the Tyrone sports teams,” said Hoover.
Local groups that sell their products keep a percentage of the profits for their organization, and the orders are custom-filled by Bake Shop Bakes.
Hoover also offers full-service catering with a customizable menu for events.
Bake Shop Bakes is also committed to helping the community and has sponsored many groups and donated items to help the community.
Just recently, Bake Shop Bakes donated cookies and treats to the Tyrone Area School District teachers in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, and just this week, they partnered with Marraras Mountain Lodge to provide food for pre-prom pictures at the Lodge.
For locals, their Tyrone location has become one of the most popular breakfast and lunch spots in town.
Some popular items on the menu include grilled cheese, BLT, monster cheesesteak, and oven oven-roasted turkey.
For breakfast, the bacon egg, and cheese, the Big Hoover, and French toast sticks are all popular choices.
Their operation hours are from 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Saturday.
