Tyrone went into Punxsutawney, the top-ranked AAA team in the state, looking to give them a good game. Not only did they do that, but the Golden Eagles were one run away from a mercy rule victory over the Chucks.
Tyrone’s bats were very hot. The Golden Eagles racked up 18 hits and scored 5 runs in sixth inning. Senior outfielder Ryan Light tallied 5 hits and junior catcher Landon Hamer had 3 hits along with a go-ahead 3 run homerun that sparked the fire for Tyrone.
Punxsutawney racked up 13 hits of their own but the Chucks were only able to score 3 runs the entire game due to dominant Tyrone pitching.
Dylan Ewing started off on the hill for Tyrone. Ewing lasted 3.1 innings allowing 3 runs and 2 strikeouts for a respectable outing. Then Logan Seeger entered who dominated the Chucks. Seeger held Punxsutawney to no runs through his 4 innings pitched while giving up only 6 hits and striking out 4.
This win put Tyrone over the .500 mark on the season and helped out their probability of making the playoffs as the projected 6th seed.
Tyrone was scheduled to take on the Penn Cambria Panthers the following day in Cresson, but the rain couldn’t hold off. That game is rescheduled for the following Saturday at 4pm.
