Aungst scores winning run in shutout against Lady Pirates
The Lady Eagles softball team ended their season on a high note on a 1-0 win against the Williamsburg Lady Pirates.
“It was a good way to finish this season, and it’s good way to end off the year. We had no errors and Anna pitched a shutout game to help us tremendously in the field.” said head coach Peter Baran.
“This was the best game we ever played and the plays each of us were making were amazing,” said senior Sam Aungst, “We all put forth 110% and I’m happy the seniors ended their final game with a bang!”
Junior Anna Baran earned her second win of the season and her first shutout since her freshman year.
Baran threw nine strikeouts, walked one, and gave up four hits over seven innings.
“I couldn’t have thrown my first shutout this season without all of the girls behind me. This was our first game errorless, without them, we would have never had a chance to win this game. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next year,” said Baran.
The Lady Eagles scattered six hits throughout seven innings, but were not able to make something happen until the last inning.
Aungst lead off with a single to bring sophomore Alli Hosko up to bat. On a pass ball, Aungst was awarded second.
On the next pitch, Hosko put it into play between the second and first baseman to cause an error, and Aungst was able to score to give the Lady Eagles the win.
“Grace Gensimore lead us all night in the field,” said coach Baran “Also, Sam and Alli really clutched up to give us the lead to finish the game. I am very proud of all of these girls and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next year.”
