Athlete of the Week: Erika Voyzey

Sport: Indoor Track

Grade: 10

Accomplishments:

Erika set a new school record while achieving a personal best of 5’5″ in the high jump at the Susquehanna Indoor High School Invitational.

“Erika continues to improve. She has been working hard during this indoor/off-season, attending extra workouts twice a week in Altoona and continuing to develop her speed and strength in preparation for what should be another exceptional outdoor season.”

1.     How did you first get involved in this sport?

I loved outdoor track and the opportunity presented itself, so I took it.

2.    What other sport(s) do you play?

Outdoor track and soccer

3.    Favorite professional sports team?

USA Olympic Track and Field Team

4.    Favorite professional athlete?

Chaunte Lowe

5.    Who is your hero? Why?

Wally Miller and Mr. Shedd. They inspire younger people to use their potential and help them succeed. They may be ordinary people but they contribute to everything.

6.    Favorite band/musician?

Lecrae

7.    Favorite movie?

The Guardian

8.    Favorite food?

Pasta

9.    What advice would you give younger athletes?

When people say you can’t, you can. Have faith in yourself, and you will succeed. It takes hard work and dedication.

10.  What are your future goals?

Hopefully I can compete in track in college and then get invited to the Olympic Trials for High Jump.
