Ask the Coach with Head Coach Jason Wilson: Week 9

Eagle Eye: How do you think the team played last week against Hollidaysburg?

Coach Wilson: I thought we played really well the first half of the game. We moved the ball and we were playing really well defensively. They are a very good opponent and our guys didn’t back down to the challenge.

EE: Are there any players that stood out to you as far as individual performances?

CW: I thought a lot of guys played well. We are a little bruised up from the last few weeks. We had some new guys rotating and playing, but that didn’t stop the guys from playing tough. We ran hard, we blocked well and were aggressive on defense for the first 3 quarters.

EE: What needs to improve this week?

CW: Tackling. I thought our tackling really dropped off the second half and we let them make some plays on us that we could have stopped. The result was a lot of big plays. We also need to execute and put points on the board when we have the chances. We played much of the first half on Hollidaysburg’s side of the field but only had 7 points to show for it. We need to eliminate off-sides penalties that are pushing us back into long situations for our offense.

EE: What are your thoughts on this week’s opponent, Penns Valley?

CW: Penns Valley is really similar to us. They can hang with any opponent as shown 2 weeks ago in the Bellefonte game. They are big up front and pass the ball really well which is a concern. They can move the ball but have failed to put points on the board similar to us. They are a team that could break out at any moment.

EE: What needs to happen to have a chance at playoffs?

CW: We need to win and let everything else play out. It doesn’t matter what else happens unless we get the win. Take care of what we can control and don’t worry about the rest.
