Ask the Coach with Head Coach Jason Wilson: Week 2
Every week the Eagle Eye sits down with Coach Wilson to talk abut the previous weeks game and our upcoming opponent.
EE: How do you feel about last week’s win vs. Bellwood?
CW: Overall I was pleased with several aspects of the game. We need to improve our red zone scoring and be more consistent in the passing game. We need to be aggressive up front and eliminate deep passes.
EE: Were there any individual performances that stood out?
CW: I was pleased with the offensive line and the defensive line. Brandon Loose ran well at running back. Several other players stepped up when injuries occurred and played well.
EE: Last year the team lost some senior starters. How well did the new starters perform this week?
CW: They played well. Over the summer they have had great attitude and good leadership. They keep improving everyday.
EE: What do we need to improve on for next week?
CW: We need to improve on our pass defense and tackling.
EE: What is your main focus for next week against Central?
CW: The number one thing is to stop Alex Hoenstine. We need to stop deep passes and stop long runs. Offensively, we need to move the ball and have consistent drives.
EE: How do you plan to stop Alex Hoenstine?
CW: Alex Hoenstine is one of the best running backs in the state and will be difficult to stop. We need to contain and shut him down on long plays. This means the defense needs to fly to the ball and gang tackle.
EE: Is he the biggest threat that we will have this season?
CW: He is the biggest threat to date but we don’t know who else we have yet. Alex will always be a threat no matter what.
EE: What are your thoughts on the Mountain League Conference this year?
Coach Wilson: The Mountain League is so tough. Just about every team has improved and keep getting better.
