How has the pandemic affected your life?

The pandemic has affected my life in many ways. In past years, my personal expectations for myself were to never get anything below a B. This year, I am happy to even be receiving grades like those. While being at home, I often got easily sidetracked and was not always focused as much as I needed to be in order to do my school work to the best of my abilities. Another big impact the pandemic had on me was my responsibilities. While we were doing fully remote learning, I was responsible for doing my own school work as well as helping my younger brother to make sure that he was staying on track.

What have you learned as a result of the pandemic?

As a result of the pandemic, I have learned that you always have to work to the best of your abilities, no matter the circumstances. I have also learned to not take simple things for granted. Before the pandemic, we never realized how lucky we actually were to be hanging out with friends or even attending normal school in person.

What worries are you experiencing now? How are you currently coping?

I am currently worried that I will not be able to join NHS (National Honors Society) for the 2021-2022 school year, because of my low grades. This never used to be a big worry for me in the past, so I am going to work very hard and try my best for the remainder of the school year to avoid losing my spot as an NHS member.

What are some positive things that have come out of the pandemic?

One positive that has come out of the pandemic is getting to spend extra time with family. Not being able to go anywhere and having to stay inside makes you realize just how important family is!

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope that in the future we can gradually start going back to the way that everything was before the pandemic. I also hope that eventually, we will not have to wear masks in public or in school anymore. As a personal goal, I hope to improve my grades and get them back to the way that they were before.
