Tyrone Marching Band Places First at St. Marys Competition

For the second year in a row, the Tyrone Golden Eagle Marching Band placed first in their division at St. Mary’s High School.

Tyrone earned a score of 78.72 which was good enough to win group 1A.

“I am very proud of the students this year. They have grown so much since band camp. But this isn’t the end of the road. The challenge now is to keep up this momentum, to keep growing, increasing our score over the next month and not plateau. I think they have it in them. Our show isn’t completely finished yet either. We have some more aspects to add in over the next two weeks that will really add to the show. I’m excited to watch them grow and hope that we can finish among the top bands this season,” said Tyrone Band Director David Hock.

In 2nd place was Westmont Hilltop with a score of 76.96. Brockway was third with a score of 75.225. In 4th place was Dubois with a score of 74.30.

Senior Elizabeth Brown was awarded the Sheetz Performer of the Week Award.

“I was honestly surprised and was shocked,” said Brown about her award.

“I am very happy that Liz was recognized as the Sheetz Outstanding Performer of the week. Both of my seniors this year have been very hard working, dedicated leaders and members of the band. I couldn’t ask for better students, so it’s only fitting that they be recognized for their achievement,” said Hock.

The next show for Tyrone is the annual home show at Gray Field. Students who are looking for community service hours or who just want to help out are encouraged to attend.

“I am excited to meet all of the bands that are competing at the show” said Ubaldi.

The Home show will begin at 6:00 pm at Gray Field.
