Tyrone Indoor Percussion & Starlight Twirlers Place First at Chapter 11 Championships

The Tyrone indoor percussion ensemble performed at the Chapter 11 Championships at St. Mary’s School this past weekend and placed first in their division with a total score of 83.20.

The Tyrone Starlite Twirlers achieved a score of 90.41 and placed first in their division and are the 2018 Region 11 Champions. The Tyrone Starlite Twirlers are made up of students from Tyrone, Bellwood, and Altoona schools who created an independent competition group in 2017. The group hopes to defend their championship title in Wildwood, New Jersey in 2018.

“We had an improvement each performance and we hope to continue with improving the show in order to make it the most musically engaging and entertaining show that we possibly can for Wildwood, New Jersey,” said Band Director David Hock.

The remaining competition left in the 2018 indoor season is the TIA Atlantic Coast Championships in Wildwood, New Jersey.

In the current rankings, the percussion ensemble is ranked seventh with a score of 83.20.

The Tyrone Starlite Twirlers are also returning to Wildwood, New Jersey and will compete with five other groups to compete for the 2018 championship title in their division.

The indoor percussion and the twirlers will travel to Wildwood, New Jersey on Wednesday, May 2. The percussion will go up against four other schools in the percussion category to compete for the top three positions to achieve a placement into the percussion finals.
