Tyrone got four pins to win the mat edition of the Backyard Brawl

Tyrone wrestlers traveled to Bellwood last night and both the junior high and the varsity teams came home with wins.

The varsity squad won 51-21 in a match that featured pins by three Tyrone sophomore grapplers Stevie Colyer, Parker Alley, and Sage Dixon and another pin by senior Ty Snyder.

At 145 pounds, the most exciting match of the evening occurred when Tyrone senior Ty Snyder pinned Bellwood’s Josh Wilson in the 2nd period.

“It was a great win, I felt it was one of my best matches of the year. Josh is a great wrestler and it was great to get a pin on him,” remarked Snyder, “overall it was a great win for the team.”

Tyrone sophomore Stevie Colyer left his mark on Bellwood’s Christian Nagle with a punishing takedown and pin.

At 132 Tyrone sophomore Parker Alley bout featured a pretty display of takedowns and a pin on Bellwood’s Nick Watters.

At 138, Tyrone sophomore Sage Dixon pinned Bellwood’s Maliki Harper after gaining a commanding 13-1 lead.

The match began in Bellwood’s favor with Kaleb Neisley getting the win over Tyrone’s Phoenix Farias 8-5.

At 170 pounds Tyrone’s  Nick Getz shocked Bellwood standout Zach Mock with a 9-5 win.

At 182 Jeremy Wilson took on the Eagle’s John Chronister. Wilson went to work with a quick takedown in the 1st period and pinned Chronister with 1:36 left in the second period.

Then Tyrone’s senior Cody Cassler took on Ryan Kerns of Bellwood. Kerns got it done and pinned Cassler in the 1st.

At 220, Dakota Walk of Tyrone received a forfeit.   Devon Brown, Mikey Cherry and Corey Hunter all received forfeits for Tyrone at 106, 113 and 126.

In the last match of the night, 152 pounder Nate Claar of Bellwood put on a great display of quick takedowns on Tyrone’s Erik Walk. The bout ended with Claar pinning Walk.

The junior high final score was 54-15 in favor of the Eagles, with Tyrone 9th graders Derrick Harris and Brandon Loose both dominating their opponents.

All in all, the night was very productive for the Tyrone grapplers.
