Ken Miles leads the crowd in his “We Are…Tyrone” chant.

Every Tyrone football fan has seen him.  And every Tyrone football fan has definitely heard him.

He’s Ken Miles. He’s “The Megaphone Guy.”

Miles and his friend Sam Seiner first began bringing their megaphones to Tyrone varsity football  games in 1996, when Seiner’s son played for the Golden Eagles.

Miles and his megaphone have been doing the “We Are…Tyrone” cheer after every touchdown ever since.

Many people are surprised to learn that Miles isn’t originally from Tyrone. He graduated from Clarion High School in Clarion, PA.

Interestingly enough, Clarion’s colors are also orange and black.  So last year when Miles went to his high school reunion he had plenty orange and black to wear.

“Orange and black are my favorite colors,” said Miles.

When my son went to college in 1997, football games were the only thing that kept me sane. It’s something for me to look forward to

In 2010, Miles was presented with a special 12th Man Award by the football boosters club. Miles was honored in special pre-game ceremony as he raised 12th man flag at Gray-Memorial Field.

Fellow Tyrone fan and football mom Laura Crawford appreciates Miles’ enthusiasm. “Regardless of how we are playing, [Ken] continues to remain supportive of the boys,” said Crawford.

Miles has even missed business trips to places like Las Vegas, San Diego, and Atlanta just to go to Tyrone football games.

Miles recently retired, but when he was working he would save his vacation days throughout the year just for football season.

“Ken is an important part of Tyrone football,” said Marie Makdad, mother of recent Golden Eagle players Ben and Jake Makdad. “Ken brings enthusiasm and engages the crowd in every game.  He is a tradition and I look forward to seeing him every year.”

The players also appreciate Miles’ support. “I can hear him out on the field every game. He is definitely the 12th man,” said freshman offensive and defensive lineman Colby Pannebaker.

“I can really hear him on the field. He is a huge supporter of Tyrone football,” said fullback Noah Tepsic.

He needs to live forever!

Crawford said “If [Ken] was missing everyone would be going, where is ‘megaphone guy’?”

To Miles, Tyrone football is a big part of his life. “[It’s] wonderful Friday night entertainment,” said Miles.

“When my son went to college in 1997, football games were the only thing that kept me sane. It’s something for me to look forward to,” said Miles.

“He needs to live forever!” said Crawford.
