Tyrone Cross Country opens season

Team battles their opponents and the elements.

“I expect good things from the Cross Country Team this year” says Tyrone’s Varsity Cross Country and Junior High Track Coach, Tammy Wills.

The team had a rough run September 2nd at West Branch High School, running against West Branch, St. Joseph’s School District, and the weather.

Around 3:40 a Tornado Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for the West Branch area. The races where completed, but the team had to stay behind for a while waiting for the results.

Tyrone finished second with West Branch in third, and St. Joseph’s took first with the first and second place finishes in the boys race.

Tyrone pushed hard with their best  finisher Adam Zook in third place, coming in just under nineteen minutes. Unfortunately the team was missing two runners, Cody Eckels and Shawn Isenburg, which impacted the team scoring.

“The Big Valley Invitational was an eye-opener to newcomers to the team” said Wills.  Nearly thirty district six school districts competed at the event. Tyrone’s Adam Zook place a team best thirteenth, earning a AA medal with a time of 18:46.

The team’s next invitational is at Altoona on Saturday September 20th.
