Tyrone Boys Soccer splits the week vs. Altoona and Philipsburg

Last Saturday the combined team of Tyrone/Bellwood boys soccer team kicked off their season with a 7-0 to Altoona on August 30.

Though the team played better than the score indicated, it showed that there needs to be some tweeking in practice.

Going into the second half the score was only 2-0 in favor of the Mountain Lions, thanks to the great goaltending of Tyrone junior Anthony Politza.  However, the game soon pulled away from the Eagles as Altoona added on another 5 goals in the period.

“I think the team needs to run a little more at practice, we looked a little gassed 5  minutes into the second half,” Coach Chad Hunter said.

The team was hoping they would be ready for the game against last years District 6 champions Philipsburg on Wednesday, September 3.

The Eagles defeated Philipsburg 2-1.

The Eagles scoring started early in the game when Bellwood Junior Noah D’ Angelo scored on a tenth minute penalty kick after senior Josh Wilson was fouled within the keepers box.

The next goal was scored on the opposing side of the field by Phillipsburg after some aggressive play by the Eagles resulted in a penalty kick allowing Phillipsburg to capitalize off of it making the score 1-1 going into the second half.

Once the second half had started towards the end in the 63rd minute a good pass from D’ Angelo resulted in a goal just outside the 18 by Wilson sealing the win for the Eagles.

Other pieces adding on to the win were excellent defensive performances from Tyrone senior Chris “Bonsai” Bonsell and Junior Eric Hartsock.
