Tyrone Boys end losing skid with 3-0 victory over Bellefonte

Anthony Politza with a high-flying save

Tyrone ended a week long three game losing streak yesterday, winning 3-0 on their home turf versus the Bellefonte Red Raiders.

The boys played a little bit more defensive to start, as Bellefonte got the ball into their half of the field frequently, and after a few saves and stops, Tyrone got their opportunities to push up field.

Tyrone couldn’t maintain possession once it got on Bellefonte’s half until Senior Noah D’Angelo weaved through defenders on a baseline run and scored an unassisted goal.

After that Bellefonte’s game plan flipped upside down and they just kept giving possessions away with poor passes or just kicking right senior goalkeeper Anthony Politza.

Tyrone’s second goal came right before halftime (25’) when, once again, senior Noah D’Angelo took on the Bellefonte defense on a through ball, and scored another unassisted goal. That gave D’Angelo, the reigning Mountain League’s leading scorer, 10 goals this year.

Coming into halftime Tyrone was fired up and ready to defend their lead, while the Red Raider’s were looking to make a comeback. Tyrone came out of halftime with great passing and possession led by midfielder sophomore Blake Johnston and senior Nic Mallory.

Mallory later scored the third goal when he nailed one from 30 yards out, after Tyrone was awarded a free kick.

Tyrone knew they’d have to bolster the midfield and defense to seal the win and keep their 3 goal lead. They did just that and shutout the Red Raider’s giving senior goalkeeper Anthony Politza his second clean sheet on this young season.

“It’s good to see these guys start the week off with a win, after they have one all of last week. I really feel that this is just a slow start for them, they’ll be a big threat in the Mountain League this year,” said Assistant Coach Chad Hunter.
