TAHS February Artist of the Month: Scotti Everhart

As an artist, sophomore Scotti Everhart is the whole package.

That’s according to Tyrone studio art teacher Eric Feather, who has nothing but praise for this talented sophomore.

“Scotti is made to be an artist.  She has all of the components necessary to be successful,” said Feather, “She possesses a combination of keen observation, vivid imagination, natural ability and above all a sincere interest in improving her skills.”

According to Feather, Everhart’s artistic style can best be described as a combination of surrealism and hyper-realism.

“Scotti has a blend of traits that result in her success as a young artist. Her art is characterized by skillfully rendered images that become personal symbols for expressing her thoughts,” said Feather.

Everhart has been into art since she was a little girl. “I’ve been painting and drawing since I could hold a pencil,” said Everhart.

One thing the sets Everhart apart from other talented artists is that she always strives to improve on her previous pieces; she analyzes what she has done wrong and works to make herself better, said Feather.

Everhart became inspired by the artists she would meet at festivals and art fairs she has attended.

“I don’t really have one big favorite artist, I like a variety of artists; many of them are just people I find online,” Everhart said.

In addition to studio art, Everhart also enjoys writing and photography.

Scotti likes to create art that speaks to her or other people. If she can’t put something into words she uses her art to express and show it.

She prefers to work with colored pencils or graphite, but has also worked with paint and other mediums as well.

According to Everhart, she is not currently working on any big pieces, she is just doing small projects here and there.

Everhart says that the biggest thing she struggles with is inspiration.

“Getting started can be difficult sometimes,” said Everhart. To overcome her struggles, Everhart often writes poems or finds songs that have lyrics that inspire her to create something.

Everhart plans to go to South Hills business school, majoring in graphic design with a  minor in business.

“I’m not sure what exact job or career I want to pursue yet, but definitely something involving art. I’m just going to wait and see what’s available,” said Everhart.
