State high jump champion Erika Voyzey has been missing from local track news due to injury, but plans to return to action today.

Voyzey has missed the past two meets and an invitational due to nagging shin splint injury.  She has been doing physical therapy and plans to return to competition at tonight’s home tri-meet vs Bellefonte and Huntingdon.

“I think I got shin splints from not having a break,” said Voyzey.

Voyzey has been jumping non-stop since the season began last year, doing additional jumping through summer and the fall and winter indoor season. Jumping at indoor nationals is when she first began to have problems.

“I’m one of those people that try to suck it up, but it was just bad,” said Voyzey, “I have large goals, so a week off was good.”

Voyzey traveled to Somerset on April 20th to practice some jumps for the first time in a week.

“I didn’t do as much because I didn’t want to over do it for our meet today,” said Voyzey.

She’s not allowed running but plans to slowly ease back into triple jump by next week.

“I’m glad to be back, I’ve missed my team,” said Voyzey.
