EE: What inspired you to become a teacher?
TH: When I was in high school, my animal science teacher asked if I would like to help teach some 9th graders for a week. That was my first experience and I realized I loved to share my knowledge of agriculture and as a human society we should all understand where our food, fiber and natural resources come from and the importance of them in our everyday lives.

EE: How long have you been teaching?
TH: I’m starting my 4th year at Tyrone Area High School, but I spent 13 years preparing agricultural educators at The Pennsylvania State University.

EE: Have you always taught at Tyrone? If not, where else?
TH: Before coming to Tyrone, I had the opportunity to teach a year in West Virginia and worked in New Jersey with the State FFA Organization.

EE: What is your favorite memory as a teacher?
TH:This is not easy to answer, since I have so many favorite moments. Matter of fact, each night we gather as a family and discuss what our favorite memory is of the day.

EE: If you weren’t teaching right now, what do you think you would have done with your life?
TH:I would probably still be a Penn State helping to prepare students to teach agriculture, coordinate events for agricultural educators and serve as the advisor of the Penn State Collegiate FFA.

EE: Where did you attend high school/ what year did you graduate?
TH:I graduated from Northern Burlington County Regional Sr./Jr. High School in Columbus, NJ in 1992.

EE: What’s your favorite movie?
TH: The Wizard of Oz, but I tend to like theater more, so my favorite show is Wicked.

EE: Where did you attend college?
TH: I started at a community college and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia University. I was recruited to The Pennsylvania State University and completed my Masters of Education.

EE: What is your advice to the Class of 2016?
TH: Believe in yourself, and have empathy toward others. You can make a difference each day by doing or saying something kind to a total stranger!

EE: What is your dream vacation trip?
TH: A trip across country in our camper to the National Parks.
