The band in the PA Band Spotlight this week is Lilly, PA’s own Lies Inc.
Lies Inc. is a four piece power rock band consisting of Lily Taylor, Nate Nagle, Kent Tonkin, and Ron Brode. They combine rock, metal, punk, and many other genres to make a unique sound that is sure to draw a crowd.
I recently had the opportunity to go in depth with Lies Inc, and interview lead singer Lily Taylor.
Nathan: When was the band formed?
Lily: 2004, but the current lineup solidified in 2012
Nathan: How did the idea of Lies Inc come about?
Lily: The name is inspired by a Philip K. Dick novel about a massive scam concocted by an alien race to trick humanity into servitude. We liked the name and applied it to the idea of a mythical corporation that builds, well, LIES! Sound like any companies or governments you know?
Nathan: What bands inspire you?
Lily: Everything from Tool to Elvis. Some obvious influences of the current lineup include Rush, Metallica, Dream Theater, Helloween, and Peter Gabriel.
Nathan: How did you get into the music scene?
Lily: Most of us joined bands at a young age by putting out ads or hearing about openings from friends of friends, etc.
Nathan: Did you or any of your band mates have any other bands previous to Lies Inc?
Lily: Nitekast, The Grimm, Original Sin, Wine of Nails, Half Tempted, the Jedi Herdsmen and many, many more!
Nathan: What are a few bands that you guys have been able to play with?
Lily: We’ve had great shows with A Sound of Thunder, Naildriver, Black Sun, Until We Have Faces, Burden My Surrender, and an entire host of original bands!
Nathan: What is the most memorable show and why?
Lily: Our first Pittsburgh gig at Howler’s Coyote Cafe; this lineup began finally “firing on all cylinders” at that show.
Nathan: When will you release a full length CD?
Lily: Hopefully in 2013
Nathan: What are some of the memorable venues you have played at?
Lily: Howler’s, Aldo’s, Ace’s Lounge.
