How has the pandemic affected your life?

Prior to the pandemic, I always thought that I was grateful for the things that I had. While I did appreciate my materialistic things like clothes and shoes, I really took experiences for granted. Going to sporting events and spending time with my grandparents were just things that I did, not something that I was fortunate to have. Not being able to do these things made me realize how important they are to me. Now, I do my best to live in the moment and be grateful for all of the things that I have- no matter how small.

What have you learned as a result of the pandemic?

Before COVID, I was a pretty pessimistic person. I never was truly happy. When everything shut down, it felt as if all of the noise was stripped from my life and I was able to get back to the basics. Having such a simple lifestyle and routine forced me to self-evaluate and adjust my behaviors.

What worries are you experiencing now? How are you currently coping?

There are so many things to worry about today, but I do my best to think on a daily basis and not worry about the future because no single person knows what it will hold.

What are some positive things that have come out of the pandemic?

I felt that the hybrid schedule allowed me to utilize my time management skills and helped me prepare for college where that skillset is vital to success.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope that children will be able to attend school and everyone can gain a sense of community again. COVID 19 has robbed us of all of the personal interactions that support our mental health. As vaccines are distributed, I hope that gathering together is not a risk. Choosing between mental and physical health has been taxing.
