Lady Eagles Soccer Opens Season Tonight at PO
The 2019 Tyrone-Bellwood Lady Eagle soccer team started six freshmen last year, and while their 4-14 record didn’t look great on paper, many of their losses were by only one goal. With a year’s experience, the girls are focused and looking to have a successful 2020 as they open the season tonight at Philipsburg Osceola at 6 pm.
Sophomore co-captain Chloe LaRosa is looking forward to getting back on the field after a long layoff.
“All of us lost a lot of playing time because of COVID, but we all really stepped up in the offseason and I’m excited to see how it works out on the field,” said LaRosa.
This year’s squad only lost two seniors to graduation, so team chemistry should not be an issue this year.
Also, strong numbers mean that the Lady Eagles will field both a varsity and junior varsity team this season. This will allow all the girls to improve on their game even if they do not get the opportunity to play with the varsity team.
The team’s only senior is Kendall Markley. This will be Markley’s fourth year on the varsity team and her second year as a captain.
“This year is looking pretty good so far. We are definitely still working on playing to the best of our ability, but the girls have been putting in a lot of work every day. There are definitely going to be some challenging teams, but we will be putting up a fight,” said Markley.
Tyrone’s returning starters are senior Kendall Markley, juniors Mackenzie Latchford, Sophia Nelson, Lindsey Parks, Natalie Saltsgiver, and sophomores Chloe LaRosa, Eliza Vance, Avalyn Moore, Rayann Walls, and Olivia Zimmerman.
Other returning players include juniors Jaylee Shuke and Eva Toth and sophomores Allyson Partner and Hailey Vanish.
With nine incoming freshmen and one new junior, the team should have a bright season ahead of them and with many hopeful wins.
“I’m really excited for this upcoming season. We have a great group of girls this year and I can’t wait to see how this year turns out,” said junior Mackenzie Latchford.
