Lady Eagles knock off the Lady Bearcats 3-2 in OT

The Eagles win was only the second against Huntingdon in school history

The Tyrone Lady Eagles knocked off the Huntingdon Lady Bearcats soccer team 3-2 in overtime at Huntingdon on Monday, September 8.  This was only the second time in school history that the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bearcats.

“It was a good all around team effort. We got the result because the defense held down the back and allowed the offense to attack at vital times. I couldn’t be more proud of the team,” said senior Hope Wilson.

Senior Carrie Vance scored the game’s other two goals, one on a penalty kick, the other with an assist from freshman Elina Lure.

The Lady Eagles started the game with a opening run from junior defender Reagan Plowman. On her way down the field, Plowman was fouled in the 18 yard box, resulting in a penalty kick.

Senior Vance connected on the penalty kick to give the Lady Eagles their first goal of the game.

“The girls committed themselves as a team,” said head coach Bruce Makin, “they refused to give up, and brought home a well fought victory in OT”.

10 minutes later, Huntingdon freshman Katelyn Kelsey put the ball in the net for the Bearcats on a pass from senior Rachel Fleming, mading the score 1-1.

Eight minutes into the second half Vance scored on a pass from Lure to make the score 2-1.

Seven minutes later the Lady Bearcats came back to tie the game from another shot from Fleming at the six yard line.

The half ended and the game was headed to overtime.

With 3 minutes left in OT, Wilson put up a shot right outside of the 18-yard line, giving the Lady Eagles their second conference win of the season.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10th, 2014 at home vs. Clearfield, and Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at home vs. the West Branch Lady Warriors.
