Lady Eagles get back to back wins over Bald Eagle and Claysburg-Kimmel

19-1; still undefeated in the Mountain League

The Tyrone Lady Eagles had back to back wins this week to improve their record to 19-1.

The Lady Eagles beat Bald Eagle 56-31 on Tuesday night, and were back in action Wednesday night beating Claysburg 65-56 in overtime.

Against Bald Eagle, Kasey Engle and Alexis Cannistraci led the Eagles with 18 and 17 points respectively, as the Lady Eagles remained undefeated in the Mountain League.

Sydney Shaw added 10 points to help lead Tyrone to victory.

Wednesday night’s match up against Claysburg was more of a concern for the Lady Eagles. Engle scored a game-high 30 points while Cannistraci added 21 as the Eagles took down the Lady Bulldogs in a high energy overtime game.

The Lady Eagles are used to the challenges. They are used to overcoming the nerves and digging down deep.

“We really had a huge burst of energy during the overtime that showed we wanted it more than they did,” Engle stated.

Rebounding and careless mistakes was a huge factor for the Lady Eagles which allowed it to be such a close game.

The Lady Bulldogs tied the game at 49 with 13 seconds left in regulation and sent the game to overtime.

The Lady Eagles dominated in overtime,

“We made some mistakes early and didn’t rebound well at times,” stated Coach Luke Rhoades, “but when we needed to come together, all 16 girls did that and it was nice to get the win up there.”

Despite only scoring one point, Rhoades is quite impressed with the way Marissa Sprankle is performing defensively.

“She did a great job holding their leading scorer [Burk] to only nine while she was on her. Burk only ended with 12 points but they were very tough shots,” Rhoades added.

“I’ve come to realize my role is to play good solid defense and scoring points is not a part of that,” said Sprankle, “when I do my role to the best of my ability, it betters the team.”

Kasey Engle had her second 30 point game of the 2015-2016 season which brought her to 1,276 career points. She has moved to 5th on the Lady Eagle’s all-time scoring list passing Gendie Haverstein (1990-1994).

The Lady Eagles are back in action Friday night as they take on the Lady Rams from Penns Valley for the Mountain League Championship. This win is big for the Lady Eagles’ seniors as it is their senior night and last time playing on their home court. Senior night activities begin at 7:00, followed by tip off at 7:30.
