Lady Eagles Claw the Bearcats in Four Set Match

After losing two times last season to the Huntingdon Bearcats, the Lady Eagles came into their Thursday night match ready to change history.

“Gooding has another stellar performance leading the Eagles with 29 kills. Two matches in a row that she has went over 25 kills which is tough to do.  At some point, I keep asking myself she has to get tired, but yet she keeps putting the ball away”

In the first set, the Lady Eagles came out rolling with a big lead and ended up winning the set 25-20.

“We came out feeling prepared and ready to get the dub. I was super excited to face Huntingdon especially because they beat us last year,” said sophomore Courtney Williams.

The second set was close but the Bearcats took the win 28-26.

“It was frustrating to lose the second set because of how close it was in the end. I think if we limit the service errors we will have a better opportunity of beating better teams,” said senior Kylee Gooding.

In the third set, the Lady Eagles fought hard and pulled away towards the end, winning 25-20.

“After losing a tough fought second set, the girls continued to fight to win the third set,” said assistant head coach Bob Oberhiem.

The fourth would end up being the deciding set. After a close match, the Lady Eagles got the win with a score of 25-20.

“We need to get better at finishing big games moving forward and not buckling under pressure,” said junior Ebonee Rice.

Gooding led the team with 29 kills. Williams added 8 kills and 4 blocks at the net while Mattie Cherry had 40 assists. Rice had 16 digs, sophomore Makenna Bauer had 14 service points and sophomore Miranda Goodman had 8 service points. They both had 3 aces a piece.

The Lady Eagles next face the Clearfield Bison on Tuesday night away with a record of 3-2. JV starts at 6pm and Varsity at 7pm.
