Editor’s Note:  “Inside the Huddle” is new weekly feature in the Eagle Eye by Seth Umholz.  From his unique perspective as both a senior and team captain, Seth will reflect on each game and provide thoughts on the upcoming match-up each week of the football season.

From week to week, the goal of the football team is not always to just win, but it is to also get better. This was stressed last week as the team prepared to get ready for our away game vs. Huntingdon. Coach Guthoff and the leaders of the team continually stressed throughout the week that we were playing ourselves just as much as we were playing Huntingdon. Certain mistakes had to be eliminated or cut down and just coming away with a one score difference in a victory would not be enough to satisfy us.

Huntingdon was a much improved team from the previous year when we had posted 70 plus points on the Bearcats. This was something else to keep in mind during the week, especially after playing a very tough Central Dragons team the week before. Due to this, a conscious effort was made on the part of the varsity players to try and remember that on any given day, any team can beat another team. There was no doubt that this game was going to be much closer this year than last year.

The weather for the game was unbeatable—the temperature was in the 60’s and thus nice and cool for the players. This is a very nice improvement over the 80 degree and humid weather experienced recently—even as recent as Tuesday and Wednesday of the same week.

We were focused before the game and were just ready to play some football. Then, the game was a much closer contest than last year as expected with a 28-6 final score and another victory for the Tyrone Varsity Football Team.

There is no doubt that there were still many mistakes and things that need to be corrected. The team will continue to work hard towards our goal and will without a doubt improve throughout the process. Now the focus is on to Philipsburg for this upcoming Friday.
