GOLDEN Kickoff Day Planned for Friday

Friday will feature games, a professional DJ, pep rally, and after school tailgate to kick off the 2018-2019 school year

DJ Leen will perform at TAHS on Friday

With the first day of school rapidly approaching, most kids are desperately hanging onto the last few moments of summer and dreading the day they have to sit in a classroom once again. But thanks to the efforts of a some TAHS students and staff the start to the school year will be different this year.

While the first day will run as usual, day two is when the fun really begins.

Friday will be the first annual GOLDEN Kickoff Day. Students and staff will enjoy an activity-packed day including games, a professional DJ and an after school tailgate before the annual Backyard Brawl at Gray Field.

The day was planned by student members of the GOLDEN Revolution club based on students’ feedback from last year. The group hopes that it will provide a positive start to the school year and become an annual event.

She’s really good. She does mashups of lots of popular music so it’s really something you can dance to

On Friday students will report to their first period class as usual but that will be the day’s only scheduled class.

At 8:30, students and staff will report to the auditorium for the second annual GOLDEN Kickoff Assembly. Students will sit by grade level and after a brief introduction from GOLDEN Revolution, students will be asked to form groups of 4-5 people of the same grade level for a school-wide game of Family Feud. Teachers and staff will be able to get in on the action as well, but teams of only teachers and/or staff will not be allowed.

There will be a preliminary round of ten questions, followed by an intermission where videos from GOLDEN Revolution members will be shown. After that, the highest scoring family from each grade level will advance to the final round to determine the winner of Family Feud: Tyrone Style.

Once a champion has been crowned, from A lunch to C lunch, students will be given the opportunity to catch up with friends in the gym while a DJ plays some great music.

The DJ, Cayleen Green, also known as DJ Leen, is coming all the way from Chicago for this event.  According to her website, she is a recent graduate of the University of Louisiana with a degree in business management.

Members of the GOLDEN Revolution first heard Cayleen DJ at Josten’s Positivity Summit at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg this February.

“[DJ Leen] is more than talented and we are thrilled to be having her join us this Friday,” said sophomore Laura Kohler, who attended the Positivity Summit. “She’s really good. She does mashups of lots of popular music so it’s really something you can dance to.”

She will play for two hours during A – C lunches. Students will still report to their assigned lunch, but for 45 minutes instead of 30.

There will also be a Club and Activities Fair where representatives from various clubs and organizations will be given the opportunity to talk to students about their clubs. Students can visit the club representative to sign up and learn more about how to get involved.

Finally, to cap off the day, the annual fall sports assembly and pep rally will be held in the gym. All fall athletes will be introduced and participate in games during the assembly.

Dismissal will be at 2:55 as usual, but the excitement doesn’t end with the school day. After buses and all other traffic has cleared the parking lot, there will be a pre-game tailgate leading up to the start of the 2018 Backyard Brawl.

Around 5:30, the band will walk to Gray Memorial Field, followed by Tyrone students who attended the tailgate. There will also be a student section at the game.
