Glass Slipper Project Helps Make Prom A Reality

Most seniors stress about finding the perfect prom dress. But with new dresses ranging  from $150 at the low end, to over a thousand for a designer dress, many others face the reality of not being able to afford to go to the prom at all.

But thanks to Blair County’s United Way’s Glass Slipper Project, students in need can get a beautiful nearly new prom dress free of change.

Each year, the United Way of Blair County invites the community to donate their new or gently-worn formal wear so all high school juniors and seniors can make memories to last a lifetime at their school’s end of year festivities.  All of the dresses are updated styles, in various sizes and many have only been worn once.

The 2017 Glass Slipper Project (a prom gown giveaway) will be held at the Logan Valley Mall on the 2nd level across from Old Navy on the following dates:

  • Friday, Feb. 24th From 5-8 pm
  • Saturday, Feb. 25th from 12-4 pm
  • Saturday, March 18th from 12-4 pm

The Glass Slipper Committee invites all Blair County students to visit the boutique and to “shop” for a free gown, jewelry, and/or accessories to make their prom an event they will always remember.

The new and gently worn gowns will be distributed at no cost on a first-come, first-serve basis. Volunteers will be on-hand during the boutique days to serve as personal shoppers and to help the students make a perfect selection.

Students interested in donating an old dress to the Glass Slipper Project can also do so at the event.
